Interesting older shot! Wasn't the headlight on the 63?

Did the train from Americus/Vidalia pull high and shove in that track? Reason I'm asking is this location looks a lot like the extreme north end of CSX's Southover Yard, with the I-516 overpass(which it appears where you took the pic from). Alabama Jct is another couple of miles or so behind the Baldwin where the Americus train would have first come onto the old ACL line.

This is actually the south end of SAL's Savannah Yard at Blossum Jct. The track going straight formerly ran to the SAL's old yard crossing the A line at the C&S crossing. Tracks still come out of Savannah yard today, but the straight section was torn up some years ago. It had been used for car storage for a while. This is a really neat view looking north. It was the origional SAL mainline.

I explored this area a few years ago. Blossum Junction Lane runs parallel to the old straight track for several hundred feet before dead ending. It is all gone today, but the ROW is clearly visible there. I saw some major concrete signal bases just like the ones you can see here in this picture. Note the concrete bases on either side of the track. I just saw an old aerial from the 1950s that shows the old Blossum Junction turnout switch. it was north of this location about a quarter mile. The tracks you see turning left here were all built in the 1950s when SAL constructed the new Savannah Yard. I wish there were more images at this location. Thanks for sharing this!!!!
